Debt Settlement

Debt settlement reduces the total amount you owe.  EXAMPLE:  If you owe $5000 to a credit card, you can negotiate to reduce the entire amount by a few hundred or few thousand dollars and pay off in one or more lump sums.  This is more cost effective than debt consolidation and you can settle the debt on your own rather than pay a private company to do it for you.  The Attorney for Students office can help!
